‘Toofaan’ created a huge buzz, Farhan Akhtar’s punch on the heart

Whenever boxing films are mentioned in the Indian film industry, Mithun Chakraborty’s ‘Boxer’ is definitely remembered. Priyanka Chopra also shed her blood in ‘Mary Kom’. The film ‘Saala Khadoos’ was also produced by R Madhavan. But anyone who has seen ‘Ali’, the biopic of boxing champion Muhammad Ali, will understand that making a film on boxing is not an easy task. Especially if films like ‘Rising Bull’ or ‘Cinderella Man’ are to be believed, little effort has been made to take the boxer’s life out of the boxing ring and see it in Indian films. The film ‘Toofan’ is the story of a boxer who is making a comeback after losing everything. Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is also making a comeback from the film. It’s been five years since he was given the biggest flop of his career and now he too has understood, ‘Your honor is in your hands.

The same film ‘Toofan’ has been accused of being the story of love jihad. It is definitely a love story of a Muslim boxer and a Hindu doctor girl. After knowing the love story of this Muslim boy, the girl’s father is also thinking the same. But Ajju aka Aziz Ali Boxer, raised in the orphanage, does not take the initiative anywhere in this entire love story. He talks to his girlfriend by saying ‘aap’. Fans know from the beginning that their coach is their girlfriend’s father, but when Ajju comes to know, a storm strikes. The story of the film has got the name of Toofan Aziz Ali Boxer. The story moves from Dongri to Delhi after coming into the mainstream of Maharashtra. The game tells us about the corruption in the unions. Shows the changing mindset of the youth towards sports and gives a glimpse of the films of Manmohan Desai’s time when saffron was shining on the screen.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has chosen the story according to today’s time. Along with the story, he also keeps making his directional comments. Rakesh was never an escapist filmmaker. He will also get the biggest education of ‘Mirzya’. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra himself occasionally appears as Aziz Ali. He is also seen in some scenes of the film. Mehra completed 20 years this month by making his first film ‘Aks’. And, the film ‘Toofan’ is in a way reincarnated in films as well. His dialogue from the same film is, ‘Zindagi kya karegi jab mauka degi, uthaigi ya jaane dehi?’ The film is long and hence gets stuck and knocks somewhere. But a good script is the lifeblood of a good film.
