Indian cricket team had to face defeat badly in the third test match. India lost the third match of the five-match Test series by an innings and 76 runs. In this match, India missed an extra batsman, about which former Indian team captain and great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has said that India will have to think of getting an extra batsman in the fourth Test.
Gavaskar said, “I think he has to think whether he will go with this line-up or change the team. He has to think whether he is okay with five bowlers or if he has to take an extra batsman instead of a bowler.” The former India batsman and current cricket commentator pointed to the crucial No. 6 batting position where Rishabh Pant has batted and failed in the series.
He said that India can give a chance to an additional batsman at No 6 and send Pant down the order. Apart from Pant, Ajinkya Rahane’s form has also been a matter of concern but Cheteshwar Pujara has done well in the second-second innings of the last two matches. However, it is difficult to keep Rishabh Pant out as he is the wicketkeeper and if anyone has to drop it could be Rahane.
If Rahane is left out, India will have the option of picking any two batsmen from Mayank Agarwal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hanuma Vihari. At the same time, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar believes that India should go into the fourth Test match with four bowlers. However, if KL Rahul takes over as the wicketkeeper, Hanuma Vihari can be brought in in place of Rishabh Pant.
