Nuclear Power Plant On the Moon: Russia is going to take another big leap in its ambitious space missions. Russia is now working on a plan to build a nuclear power plant on the moon. This project will not only demonstrate Russia’s technical capability but will also prove to be a milestone in building human settlements on the moon. Russia aims to establish a permanent source of energy on the moon. It is very important to meet the energy requirements for long-term scientific research and human presence on the moon. Nuclear power plants will be an important step in this direction which will ensure energy supply. The most surprising thing in this entire exercise is that Russia can get the support of India and China in this.

China and India are also interested

This project is to be built under the leadership of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom. The Eurasian Times report quoted Russia’s state news agency TASS. According to the report, India and China can set up a nuclear power plant on the moon in collaboration with Russia. Russian news agency TASS has given this information quoting Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev. Likhachev said at the Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok, Russia, “Our Chinese and Indian partners are interested in this project.” Rosatom is Russia’s state nuclear energy company, which also has relations with India.

The technology will be very advanced

The nuclear power plant will be designed keeping in mind the harsh conditions of the moon. The plant will be based on small, modular nuclear reactors that can be installed at various locations on the lunar surface. The construction and operation of these reactors will be fully automated, reducing the need for human intervention. The biggest concern in operating nuclear power plants is safety. Russia will ensure that the plant is built and operated by the highest safety standards. Apart from this, special measures will be taken to maintain the environmental conditions of the moon so that there is no radioactive emission of any kind.

Moonyou will get so much energy

Russia’s space agency Rosatom announced in May that work on the nuclear power plant was underway. In 2021, Russia and China announced plans to build a joint lunar base called the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). It could be operational between 2035 and 2045. According to media reports, India is working on a plan to send humans to the moon by 2040 and build a base there. In this regard, India’s interest in this project is natural. According to The Russian news agency Tak, this nuclear power plant led by Rosatom will generate up to half a megawatt of electricity.

The beginning of a new era

If seen, this move of Russia is a sign of the beginning of a new era in space. Establishing a nuclear power plant on the moon will not only increase the possibility of long-term missions to the moon, but it will also lay a strong foundation for space missions to Mars and beyond. This initiative of Russia will open new possibilities in the field of space research. It will also help in realizing the dream of human settlements on the moon.
