Hearing was held in the Supreme Court today against the decision of the Uttar Pradesh government to approve the Kanwar Yatra. Now a big statement of the central government has come out on the Kanwar Yatra. The Center said that Kanwar Yatra cannot be allowed. The Central Government told the Supreme Court that in view of the danger of Corona, Kanwariyas should not be allowed to bring Gangajal from Haridwar.
The Center said that this is an age-old practice and keeping in view the religious sentiments, the states should develop a system to provide holy Ganga water through tankers. The Center has said that due to Corona, it will not be right for kanwariyas to come to the temple of their area for Jalabhishek by taking Gangajal from Haridwar, so it would be better to make available Gangajal from place to place through tankers.
UP government should reconsider its decision otherwise we will issue order: SC
Justice RF Nariman said that Kovid has affected everyone. He said that we are all citizens of India and the UP government should reconsider its decision, otherwise we will have to give necessary orders. The Supreme Court said that there is no complete ban on conducting the Kanwar Yatra in a physical way. On which the Center has also agreed. The next hearing of the case will take place on Monday. The counsel for the UP government said that after taking instructions from the government, he would reply to the court on Monday.
UP government said in court – Yatra will be organized as a token
Regarding the Kanwar Yatra, the UP government filed a reply in the court through an affidavit. Advocate CS Vaidyanathan, appearing for the state government, said that RT-PCR test would be necessary to attend the Kanwar Yatra. Kanwar Yatra will be organized in a symbolic way, limited people will be allowed to go for Kanwar Yatra. It has also been said to make some guidelines during the journey. Due to Corona, the Uttarakhand government had banned the Kanwar Yatra.
Let us inform that in view of the possible third wave of Corona, the Uttarakhand government is already on alert mode and this is the reason that after the cancellation of Kanwar Yatra, vigilance has also been increased on the border. In fact, the government does not want that after imposing restrictions, any devotee should reach Haridwar for the Kanwar Yatra starting from July 25. To ensure this, now there is security on all the borders of Uttarakhand adjoining other states.
This is the history of Kanwar
The history of Kanwar Yatra is associated with the time of Lord Parshuram. Parashuram was a great devotee of Shiva. It is believed that once he went to ‘Pura Mahadev’ near Baghpat district of UP with Kanwar. He had performed Jalabhishek of Bholenath by taking Ganga water from Garhmukteshwar. Shravan month was going on at that time. Since then the tradition of taking out Kanwar Yatra started in the month of Shravan and in all the states including UP, Uttarakhand, Shiva devotees take out Kanwar Yatra on a large scale every year during the Sawan days.
