New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear today on the demand for the official name of the country to be BHARAT or India. The case was scheduled to be heard on Friday, but it was put forward due to the non-availability of Chief Justice SA Bobde.
The petitioner says that many members of the Constituent Assembly were in favor of India or any such name except for a name given by the colonial rulers. The subject was then left for the future due to lack of complete consensus. Now that time has come. Just as the names of many cities were changed, similarly the name of the country should also be changed to India or India. This will increase the feeling of national pride in the country.
The petitioner says that by doing so, the sacrifice of fighters who contributed to the freedom movement will be meaningful. The petition has demanded the court to issue a directive to the government to change Article 1.
