Covid: Suspended for IPL this season, BCCI decided after several players got corona infected

IPL 2021 (IPL 2021) has been postponed following the outbreak of Corona at the camp of Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla confirmed this.

New Delhi. In IPL 2021 suspended, this season has been postponed after players were found to be infected with the coronavirus. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla has informed the news agency ANI. The Governing Council of the IPL and the BCCI held an emergency meeting on Tuesday. After this meeting, a decision was taken to postpone the IPL immediately. After the postponement of the league, the BCCI’s statement came that it does not want to compromise the safety of the players, support staff, and other members involved in the league.

The decision was taken after reports of 8 players and two members of the coaching staff, including players Varun Chakraborty, Sandeep Warrior, Wriddhiman Saha, Amit Mishra, and bowling coach Balaji, came positive in two days. The BCCI said that it was necessary to cancel the tournament. The board will make full arrangements for every player and support staff joining the league to be safely delivered to their home.

All these matches were to be held in these cities;

4 cities were to be held in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bangalore, and Kolkata. However, the condition of Corona in the four cities is bad. Here, in the past few days, more than 10 thousand new cases of corona infection occurred. More than 20 thousand new cases of corona infection were reported in the country’s capital, Delhi, one day earlier. There were four matches of the second leg left in Delhi. At the same time, there were 7 more matches including the playoffs and finals in Ahmedabad. Apart from this, there were to be 10 matches in Bengaluru. There was no match so far at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here. At the same time, no match of the season was played in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

BCCI did work on Plan B

After the players and support staff got infected in the IPL, BCCI started work on Plan B. Preparations were on to shift the remaining matches of the league to Mumbai. All arrangements were made for this. Work was going on for the remaining matches at the three ground grounds of Mumbai, Wankhede, Brabourne, and DY Patil Stadium. 10 matches of the season had already been played in Wankhede. The remaining two stadiums were also ready for the match. The attempt was to shift the IPL to Mumbai from the end of this week. If that were the case, the finals and playoffs in Ahmedabad would also have been played here. But before that, it was decided to postpone the IPL.
