Viral Video Fact Check: Several news are going viral with a video which claims that a poisonous snake died after biting a four-year-old child in Gopalganj, Bihar. However, the truth of the matter is different.

 

What is claim?

According to media reports, on the evening of Wednesday (June 22), a boy was playing outside his uncle’s house in Kuchaikote police station area. As per the claims, the snake came out of a field and bitten the child in his leg. All the children playing ran towards their homes in fear. The boy then told his family members that he had been bitten by a snake and they took him to the emergency ward of Sadar Hospital.

News 18 Hindi Talking to PTI, a relative of the boy said that he came back home after playing and was found dead shortly after the snake bite. The relative also told that the boy got treatment from a doctor and he is completely fine now. Reportedly, the cobra died within 30 seconds of biting the boy.

On hearing the news of the death of the cobra due to the child’s bite, panic spread among the people around. People gathered in the area to see the dead snake.

The reports also mentioned that upon hearing that the snake had bitten the boy, people came out to beat him with sticks but by then he was dead on his own.

What is the truth behind the claim?

When the doctor was asked to confirm the facts, he told that the snake did not bite the child at all. Also posted on YouTube by News18 Hindi viral video It depicts residents of the area picking up a dead snake with their hands and putting it on a stick.

It is also possible that the residents thrashed the snake to death with the same sticks, perhaps saying that it died on its own to avoid taking responsibility for its death.
