Dubai, 26 January (HS). Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who had a stellar year 2022 in the shortest format, was on Wednesday named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year by the game’s global governing body.

Surya had a stellar performance last year where he broke several records in T20 Internationals. The 32-year-old Surya, popularly known as ‘Sky’, scored 1164 runs in 31 T20 matches last year at an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 187.43. Which includes two centuries and nine half-centuries.

He won the Men’s Cricketer of the Year award leaving behind Sam Curran, Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan and Zimbabwean batting all-rounder Sikandar Raza.

In 2022, Suryakumar became only the second batsman to score over 1,000 runs in a calendar year in T20 Internationals and ended the year as the highest run-scorer. He hit an impressive 68 sixes during the year, the most by any player in a single year in the history of the format.

However, in the women’s section, India’s vice-captain and last year’s Cricketer of the Year Smriti Mandhana lost to Australia’s Tahlia McGrath.
