Sudhir created history by winning gold in powerlifting, Murali won silver medal in long jump, know medal tally

Sudhir won gold in Commonwealth Games 2022: Para powerlifter Sudhir created history in Commonwealth Games. He did this feat by winning the gold medal for India. India now has a total of 6 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games. Mushma won the gold medal by lifting 212 kg. India has won gold for the first time in this event. At the same time, Murali has also won silver medal in long jump with a special achievement.

Sudhir won gold
Sudhir has become the first athlete for India to win gold in Para Powerlifting. Sudhir is the first Indian to win a gold in Para Powerlifting at the Commonwealth Games. He lifted 212 kg in his second attempt to win gold with a record 134.5 points, but failed to lift 217 kg in his last attempt. Nigeria’s Ikechuku Christian Ubichuku won the silver medal with 133.6 points while Scotland’s Mickey Ulay won the bronze with 130.9 points. Christian lifted 197 kg while Yule lifted 192 kg.

 

Murali won silver
Murali Sreeshankar also created history and won silver medal in long jump. It is noteworthy that this is India’s second medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 athletics event. Earlier Tejaswan Shankar had won a bronze medal in the high jump. Besides Sreeshankar, Mohammad Anees Yahia also reached the final but finished fifth with a best jump of 7.98. While Murali achieved this feat with a best jump of 8.08 metres.

Lecan Nair of Bahamas won the gold medal in this event. He too jumped only 8.08 metres. However, at that time the airspeed was -0.1 while in Fife it was +1.5. Also, Lekual’s second best effort was better than Sreeshankar’s. This is the reason why Murali got the second position despite having the same marks.

India has won 20 medals so far
India has so far won a total of 20 medals in the Commonwealth Games, out of which six are gold, seven silver and seven bronze. The special thing is that 10 of these medals have come in weightlifting. While there have been 3 medals in Judo and 2 in Athletics. Along with this, India has also got medals in Lawn Ball, Table Tennis, Badminton and Squash and Para Powerlifting. India is at the seventh position in the medal tally with 20 medals. Australia is at the first position with a total of 132 medals including 50 Gold, 42 Silver, 40 Bronze. While England is at number two with a total of 118 medals including 42 gold, 44 silver and 32 bronze. Canada is third with a total of 59 medals, including 17 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze. New Zealand is at the fourth position with 16 gold.
