The entry of unmarried girls in Delhi’s historic Jama Masjid has been banned. Boards prohibiting the entry of single women were placed at the entrance of the mosque. The notice states that the entry of girls alone into the Jama Masjid is prohibited. This clearly means that women can no longer enter Jama Masjid without men. Politics has also started on this issue. Delhi Women’s Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal has opposed this order.

Swati Maliwal said that she will give notice to the Imam of the mosque in this matter. On the other hand, the mosque administration says that this decision has been taken to prevent indecency with women. He wrote in his tweet, ‘The decision to ban the entry of women in Jama Masjid is absolutely wrong. A woman also has the same right to worship as a man. I am sending a notice to the Imam of Jama Masjid. No one has the right to ban the entry of women in such a way.

defiance of orders

Many social workers have also opposed this order of Jama Masjid. Social worker Shahnaz Afzal said that everyone has got equal rights in India. In that such a decision openly violates the constitution. He said that such a decision is not valid in any case. Muslim Rashtriya Manch spokesperson Shahid Saeed has also opposed it. He said that this is a wrong mindset. Why the double standards of women? The place of worship should be open to all.

Cleanliness of Shahi Imam

On the other hand, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, has said that women coming to the mosque to offer Namaz will not be stopped. He said that complaints had been received about girls coming to the mosque with their boyfriends. If a woman wants to come to Jama Masjid, she has to come with her family or husband.
