Sri Lanka’s hopes from new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe

Ranil Wickremesinghe has become the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for the fifth time. With this crown full of thorns, Wickremesinghe faces a plethora of difficulties and challenges. Supreme Court and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa have been taking such decisions continuously for the past one or two days so that the deteriorating economy of the country can be improved in any way. Therefore, the new Prime Minister Ranil has a great weight of expectations on his shoulders.

Although he has taken over the post of Prime Minister with unrelenting heart, but fear is also within him. But the opposition parties have clearly told him, will not oppose any of his decisions, just reform the country. Courts, administration, politics, people, all the machinery are ready to go with him. The bad times that Sri Lanka is going through, such Sri Lankans would not have imagined even in their dreams.

The new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is the main leader of the United National Party (UNP). He is considered the best administrator of Sri Lanka and a supporter of powerful countries. Apart from India, he has good relations with America. But, the problems are dire at this time, even before this he has been the Prime Minister of the country four times. However, the situation of today cannot be compared with the circumstances of then. Right now the whole of Sri Lanka is devastated. People are fascinated by other essential things along with food and drink. There are locks on work, business, jobs, schools and colleges. Life is over. Tourists have stopped coming. This is an area that gives strength to the economy of the country. Sri Lanka is also diving in the sea of economic crisis in the midst of political upheaval, Ranil Wickremesinghe’s biggest challenge is to get the country out of it. He may have assumed the reins of the post of Prime Minister, but it is too early to say how successful he will be in the challenges he has to fight in the next few months.

Overall, Sri Lanka needed an experienced administrator. Perhaps this quest will be completed with the meeting of Ranil. He is an impeccable leader. He speaks his words without any ambiguity and frankly. He does not delay much in taking decisions. He is adept at taking everyone along. India has also expressed happiness on Ranil becoming the Prime Minister.

Looking at Ranil’s political career, it seems that Sri Lanka needed such a leader at this time. He is the leader of his party United National Party’s Sarvamanya since 1994. As Prime Minister, he took the reins of the country from 7 May 1993 to 18 August 1994, 8 December 2001 to 6 April 2004, 9 January 2015 to 26 October 2018 and 15 December 2018 to 21 November 2019. Apart from this, he was also the Leader of Opposition in the House twice. He is a well-known leader on the political scene not only in Sri Lanka, but around the world.

The situation in Sri Lanka at this time is such that only a political-administrative alliance will be able to salvage it. In a deteriorating economy, even if Ranil is able to improve thirty-forty percent in a few months, it will still be a big achievement for him. His appointment is considered important because the people of Sri Lanka have high expectations from him. He is the only leader whom the public trusts. The people there are hoping that they will be able to bring the country out of political instability, economic crisis and violence.

Law and order has been ruined in Sri Lanka for the last one and a half months, it will have to be rectified. From the security point of view, this neighboring country has always been called a quiet darling. After liberation from the terror of LTTE, there was peace in the country. But suddenly the rising sun set, the economy collapsed. Ranil Wickremesinghe will have to grapple with all these problems and find a solution. Very soon something will have to be done so that normal life can become normal. Like India has sent financial help, petrol, food items, some more countries will have to come forward to help Sri Lanka. For this, Prime Minister Ranil will have to appeal for cooperation from some countries.

However, a state of emergency has been imposed in Sri Lanka at this time. First of all, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will have to remove it, so that normal life will be able to return to normal. The entire opposition is united in this time of crisis and it should be. Opposition parties have presented good pictures by expressing solidarity in times of crisis. Ranil Wickremesinghe’s party United National Party has only one seat in the 225-member Sri Lankan parliament. Despite this, the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, a faction of the opposition Samagi Jana Balavegaya and several other parties have given Wickremesinghe their majority in parliament and made him sit in the prime minister’s chair in the hope that he will be able to bring the country back on track with his experiences. India also hopes that the new Prime Minister will bring Sri Lanka out of the crisis at the earliest.
