On February 2 a 54-year-old woman endured an attack of sexual violence when she was assaulted in Mumbai within the isolated guard compartment of an express train at Bandra Terminus. The accused person received arrest following complaints from both the victim and her son-in-law who filed their reports to the GRP police.

The perpetrators who are approximately 25 years old became the target of arrest for the RPF and GRP team. A male offender sexually assaulted the victim inside an unoccupied Udhna Express located at platform number 6 of Bandra Terminus.

The police obtained information showing the victim and her son-in-law arrived in Mumbai through Dehradun Express which terminated at Bandra Terminus at 10.30 pm on February 1. Due to having no place to rest they stayed at the station overnight until the victim and the son-in-law moved toward platforms 6 and 7 at 10.39 pm.

Advised by CCTV evidence from the police operation it became known that the perpetrator abducted the victim at 1.49 am then led her into the guard compartment. When the accused attacked her her son-in-law was resting on the platform. The circumstances allowed the perpetrator to abuse the situation for committing the reported offense.

Bandra Railway Police created a legal record through criminal charges under the relevant sections of 64(1), 115(2), and 303(2) from the Indian Penal Code.

Public servants have doubts about the authenticity of the arrested defendant who identified himself as Rahul Sheikh and claimed to reside on the streets.
