John Legend is opening up about the status of his current friendship with Kanye West. The All of Me singer revealed that the differences in her political ideals, Kanye’s support for former US President Donald Trump and his own presidential campaign in 2020 were due to their strained relationship. “We’re not as friends as we used to be,” Legend said in a sit-down on The X-Files podcast.

The 43-year-old shared via People, “I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on Trump running for office, supporting him. I think it might be too much for us to maintain our friendship.” Gone.” Legend and West had previously been close together on several records and even collaborated. The Donda rapper has produced songs for Legend and the two have also featured each other on songs such as 2005’s Number One and 2008’s It’s Over.
Meanwhile, Legend also thinks West was “not happy about” Legend not supporting and stood behind him when he announced he was running for president in the 2020 elections. “He was upset that I didn’t support his running for President of the United States – for understandable reasons,” Singer said. He continued, “I wasn’t alone in this, but, you know, he wasn’t happy with it. And we haven’t really been close since.”
However, this isn’t the first time Legend has told you about his lost friendship with Kanye West. Earlier, in 2020, Legend told UK’s The Sunday Times that the rift was not due to their political differences, but to the natural course of their lives.
