Kathmandu:  India’s Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has now become the General of Nepal as well. Don’t be surprised, because the Nepali Army has conferred the “honorary title of General” to Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi. General Upendra Dwivedi is on a tour of Nepal these days. On Friday, he made a courtesy call to Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli at the Prime Minister’s Office located at Singh Durbar. According to a statement from the Nepal Army, General Dwivedi also made a courtesy call to Defense Minister Manveer Rai at the Defense Ministry on Friday.

According to Nepal’s Prime Minister Secretariat, on this occasion, Oli expressed happiness over the continuation of the tradition of conferring the honorary rank of Army General to each other’s Army Chiefs between Nepal and India. Oli also stressed the need to further expand cooperation and relations between the two countries. General Dwivedi said that he felt proud and fortunate to be the honorary General of the Nepal Army and expressed confidence that he would make every possible effort to further expand bilateral relations.

 The Indian Army Chief was on Thursday conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army by President Ramchandra Paudel at Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetal Niwas. General Dwivedi, leading a five-member delegation, arrived in Nepal on Wednesday on a five-day official visit at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Sigdel. On Thursday, General Dwivedi met his Nepalese counterpart General Ashok Kumar Sigdel, and discussed matters of mutual interest.
