Peshawar: An official warning has been issued to government employees in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The warning says that they should not participate in the protest proposed by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party on Sunday and should not use government machinery, otherwise, they will have to face serious consequences for this.

The letter issued

The Home Ministry, through a letter to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief secretary, directed him to ensure that “state machinery, equipment, officials and funds” should not be used “for political opposition by any political party”. Government employees were informed of the warning shortly after the letter was issued. In a letter to regional police officers (RPOs), Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General (IG) Akhtar Hayat Gandapur directed them not to be a part of political activities.

PTI has announced a protest

Imran Khan’s arch-rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leads the coalition at the federal level, while his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rules in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The PTI last week called for a long march to Islamabad with three demands. These demands include the release of the jailed party founder, alleged “theft of mandate” during the February 8 elections, and restoration of the judiciary by repealing the recent 26th amendment to the Constitution.
