Dhaka, May 20 (Hindustan Times). An unprecedented civilian felicitation of Govardhan Peethadhishwar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Adhokshajanand Dev Teerth Ji Maharaj took place in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Apart from the Hindus, the people of the Muslim community also gave a grand welcome to the top Dharmacharya of Sanatan Dharma. Where the children and youth were chanting loud slogans of Jai-Jai Shankaracharya Maharaj with saffron flags in their hands, while a large number of women present there were showering flowers on Jagadguru and performing his aarti.
The local people of Dhaka organized a program of civic reception of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Adhokshajanand Dev Teerth Ji Maharaj from 10 am on Saturday at the ancient Shri Shri Jatiya Shiv Mandir located in Dayaganj in the capital. On this occasion, SK Badal, the secretary of the temple and a senior leader of Bangladesh’s ruling party Awami League, took the blessings of Shankaracharya by washing his feet. Jagadguru duly worshiped Lord Shankar and performed Rudrabhishek. After this Shankaracharya ji was felicitated as a citizen.
During this, Jagadguru Devtirth Ji Maharaj said that he is overwhelmed by this unprecedented welcome and greetings from the people of Bangladesh. He blessed the huge gathering present there. Shankaracharya said that the people and governments of India are well wishers of Bangladesh. The more the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is concerned about the development of his country, the more he strives for the upliftment of the neighboring countries, especially Bangladesh.
On this occasion, Jagadguru told the devotees that about 2500 years ago, Lord Shiva himself incarnated in Kerala province of South India for the revival of Vedic Sanatan Dharma. He became famous by the name of Shankaracharya after taking retirement at the age of just eight years. He provided a solid foundation to Advaita Vedanta.
Significantly, the Govardhan Math was established by Shri Adya Shankaracharya and countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar, along with the eastern and northeastern states of India, are the special religious protected areas of the Govardhan Math. Govardhan Peethadhishwar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Adhokshajanand Dev Teerth Ji Maharaj is on the journey of 12 Jyotirlingas and 52 Shakti Peeths from 19 November 2021. After visiting the whole of India and completing the darshan-worship of most of the Jyotirlingas and Shakti Peethas, Shankaracharya ji has started the second phase of the journey of visiting the Shakti Peethas located in the neighboring countries. After traveling to Nepal and Sri Lanka, he has now reached Bangladesh.
A seven-member delegation of saints and scholars from India is also on a visit to Bangladesh along with Shankaracharya. He will visit and worship all the Shakti Peethas located here. In this sequence, soon he will also visit Shakti Peethas located in Tibet and Pakistan.
The chief guest of the civic reception and the President of Bangladesh’s main opposition Jatiya Party and Member of Parliament Ghulam Mohammad Qadir said on the occasion that all of them are very happy with the arrival of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj. He said that Jagadguru has come to give his blessings to the people of every religion of Bangladesh and we all are fortunate to have got the auspicious opportunity to welcome him today. Ghulam Mohammad Qadir also requested Shankaracharya to visit his parliamentary constituency, Rangpur.
Dhaka MP Syed Abu Hussain Bawla, who was the special guest at the ceremony, said that the worship method of people may be different, but the real aim of all religions is humanity. He also recalled the contribution of the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi in the freedom struggle of Bangladesh on the occasion.
Shankaracharya’s civic reception was also addressed by Ramprasad Pal, Deputy Speaker of the Tripura State Legislative Assembly of India. He said that Bangladesh is our friendly country. There are many Shakti Peethas here, Jagadguru has come to visit and worship those Shakti Peethas. He will also bless all the people here.
In the past, President of Abhinandan Ceremony Organizing Committee Vidhan Bihari Goswami, Secretary SK Badal, Co-Convenor Susanta Chakraborty, Joint General Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bangladesh Chapter Sujan Dey, senior journalist Tarun Chakraborty from Kolkata welcomed Jagadguru Shankaracharya. Local artiste Radhika Sarkar mesmerized everyone by giving a grand welcome to Jagadguru while dancing to the music of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’.
